Why autumn is the best time to invest in sun protection

Many people only think about sun protection once it’s already hot outside. But did you know that autumn is actually the best time to prepare? Here’s why:

  • You have plenty of time to choose the right solution together with a harol expert.
  • New external blinds or extra greenery will be in place before the first warm spring days.
  • You can maintain existing sun protection before winter begins.
  • You can redesign your garden or terrace with additional shaded areas.

Which sun protection is best for keeping out the heat

Sun protection: this is how you really keep the heat out

External sun protection—such as external blinds, roller shutters, awnings, or patio covers—is by far the most effective against heat. Outdoor solutions block the sun’s rays before they reach the glass, keeping your home up to 7°c cooler than with indoor sun protection.

What are the most effective types of sun protection

Roller shutters: completely block sunlight and heat—ideal for bedrooms or living areas.
External blinds: filter light and block the sun, but still let you see outside.
Awnings: protect terraces and large windows from direct sunlight.
Patio covers: provide extra outdoor space and keep your home cool

Frequently asked questions about sun protection and heat

  • Does sun protection really help against heat?
Yes, sun protection is one of the most effective ways to prevent overheating in your home—especially external solutions, which act as a shield to keep the heat outside.
  • How many degrees difference can sun protection make?
The difference can be up to 7 degrees, especially with well-installed external solutions. Studies show that combining sun protection with greenery can lower the perceived temperature by up to 4 extra degrees.
  • What’s better: sun protection inside or outside the window?
External sun protection is the most effective because it blocks the sun before it reaches the glass. Indoor blinds can filter light and add ambiance but are much less effective at keeping heat out.
  • Does indoor sun protection still have value?
Indoor blinds are great for privacy, ambiance, and extra insulation, but if you really want to keep the heat out, always choose external solutions.
  • Which sun protection keeps out the most heat?
Roller shutters and external blinds score highest when it comes to blocking heat.
  • Is sun protection effective?
Definitely! Especially when you choose quality solutions from harol, tailored to your home and its orientation.
Make your home truly future-proof by cleverly combining sun protection with greenery

Plants and trees around your home act as a natural air conditioner, thanks to shade and evaporation.

  • A pergola provides cooling on your terrace.
  • Consider permanent solutions such as external blinds or an awning for lasting sun protection.
  • Autumn is the ideal time to add new plants or install a pergola, so you can enjoy the shade come spring.

Practical tips for autumn

  • Install sun protection in autumn: benefit from shorter lead times and be ready for the first rays of sun.
  • Maintain your sun protection: check your roller shutters, external blinds, or awnings for dirt, wear, or blockages. A quick maintenance check now prevents problems in summer.
  • Plan your garden design: consider where you want to create more shade, for example, with trees or shade sails.

Conclusion

By thinking ahead in autumn, you’re investing smartly in comfort, energy efficiency, and a cool home. Don’t wait until the heat returns—schedule an appointment with a harol expert now. That way, you’ll be ready for the summers of the future.
